TOP 10 SONGS 2012

1) Yennodu Va Va - Karthik

Yennodu Va Va is another track that is a leaf out of Illayaraja's rich music from the 80s. It might sound a bit old fashioned for today's generation, but the slow paced beats and straightforward lines aren't enough to write it off. The singer pausing between lines now and then indicates that the song is clearly old- fashioned, just like it did with the first track. With his composition, Illayaraja makes the pallavi a bit serious and the charanams more casual.
This is the third song for Karthik in the soundtrack, and he gets an opportunity to showcase his different sets of skills. Versatile as he is, it doesn't take long for you to forget (temporarily of course) his renditions in the other renditions as you listen to this one. Na Muthukumar's lyrics don't have the same impact here as they did in 'Kaatrai Konjam'. Good to listen, still.

2)Soi Soi

A fast paced song, apparently to fill the 'kuthu' appetite of the audience. Magizhini Manimaran's voice and Imman's composition blend well. The 'Soi Soi' words are catchy. The Prabhu Solmon-Imman combo, which filled the air with their musical waves in 'Mynaa', has struck it rich in 'Kumki' too. One listen to the songs give a feel of taking a trip into the jungle.

3. Google Google

The opening song of the album, 'Google Google' is an all-out techno dance number that is going to have a few legs shaking after the release of the film. Compared to other songs sung by Vijay, it is very urban and is full of sound effects, which go well with the beats. Not exactly new turf for Harris Jeyaraj and the song breeds familiarity especially during the interludes.

Although the focus is on Vijay, the actor takes more of a cool and subtle role and delivers rather well. While his performance is nothing out of the ordinary, he does a good job in going about in a cool manner. Andrea is great addition and takes the pressure off Vijay by smoothing through her lines. Madhan Karky's lyrics is full of tech lingo and websites and are very modern, but doesn't give you enough poetry. Then again, it doesn't have to.

4) Mogathirai...
We have come to expect such songs from the composer thanks to his previous releases, Attakathi and Uyirr Mozhi. Gentle vocals accompanied by pleasant guitar strums and later a subtle drum beat. The piano, cello and accordion also make a brief appearance. The lethargic pace of the song might put you to sleep. Mogathirai uses Santhosh’s guitar-based Atta Kathi template; serene and pleasant! Its prelude, by Phil Hartl, is a wonderful listen too!

5)Iravugalil

A love song by Karthik is an explanation by itself. 'Iravugalil...' proves this once again. Sathya has won half the game by choosing Karthik to croon the number. Beautiful lyrics are an added advantage.

6)Idhayam - Swetha Pandit

Having heard songs like "En Nanbane" from Mankatha and "Engeyo Paartha Mayakkam" from YDM, I see that 'Idhayam' is nothing new to Yuvan. With the addition of some very welcome classical touches and some help from the tabla, this one has all the makings of a wonderful melody. The harp-like notes playing in the background throughout the song make it sound dreamy, and the veena and flute pieces before each charanam shows signs of depth in Yuvan's music that are not usually of this kind. Swetha Pandit, another Hindi singer after the likes of Bela Shende and Javed Ali, does well. Na Muthukumar's lyrics add value to the softness and the melody of the track.

7)Azhagiya thendrale

Wonderful to listen in a club party and family dinner. everywhere. Awesome singing and composition. Composer is SHYAMALANGAN and his colleagues and the Sri Lanka Music industry knows him by the name SRI.

8) Venam Machan

A Gaana song from Harris Jayaraj. This number is as interesting as the very idea itself. A 'Beware of girls' song, 'Venam Machan...' has interesting lines from Na Muthukumar and peppy rendering by Naresh Iyer and Velmurugan.

9). Maccayala

Maccayala was released as a single track some months ago and turned out to be a chartbuster. This same song was used as the BGM for Naan’s trailer as well. Vijay Antony’s music and the playback singing have captured the attention of the youngsters.

10)Veesum Velichathile
This song is a nice pleasant melody with minimum fuss. Karthik brings his trademark charm to this song which sounds like a lullaby. The mouth organ instrumentals add a nice finishing touch to this sure-shot melody. Though the  heard before feel dominates,  the song  sounds good.
